At least nine people were killed and 41 were injured, many of them foreigners, when bombs exploded in two luxury hotels in central Jakarta on Friday, police said.

National police spokesman Nanan Soekarna said 14 foreigners were injured but a list of the wounded at a nearby hospital included the names of 18 foreigners.Health ministry crisis centre official Rustam Pakaya told AFP that many of the injured were in a serious condition. The nine deceased include several foreigners, local media reported.

It was not immediately clear what caused the explosions, which shook the Ritz-Carlton hotel and the nearby JW Marriott in the upscale Mega Kuningan business district in the centre of the city around 8:00am (0100 GMT).Witnesses said they saw injured people being evacuated by car from the Ritz-Carlton hotel in the upscale Mega Kuningan business district in the centre of the city.

Police sealed off the area near the Ritz-Carlton and the JW Marriott hotels, an AFP correspondent said. Windows had been blown out of a second-storey restaurant at the Ritz Carlton.

it's just last month that i went to Jakarta...and now there's a new bomb attack

I remembered the taxi driver pointed to us about the bombing of the JW Marriott hotel and that's why every buildings have securities to check any vehicles entering the compound....even visitors of shopping malls and other buildings have to go through a metal detector and have your bags checked for any bombs...

wonder how the " terrorist " smuggled in the bombs ??
