My mum encourages me to read when I was young and when I was four, my parents gave me my first set of encyclopedia ( Childcraft ) . Among all the books in the collection , i'm most fascinated with Space and Animals =D but for the animals part , i'm MORE interested in those Ancient fishes / creatures which are still surviving today . ( living FOSSILS ! )
Cut the talk and dive into the topic , i'm going to talk about the :
top 3 ancient creatures that fascinates me !
Creature number 1 : HORSESHOE CRAB A.K.A SPACE CRAB
Watched an episode about this creature on National Geographic ! ( SPACE CRABS )
Looks like some ancient creature that exist during the dinosaur times huh ?

Exist since : BEFORE DINOSAURS EXISTED !! ( living fossil !! )
Lifespan : 20 years
Lifecycle : Eggs are usually laid in low water line . Between 4 to 30 days the eggs " hatched "
and the larvae emerge . The Larvae will swim ( usually at night ) for 6 days and will
settle near the intertidal flats of beaches ( the part where we can stand lols xD ) .
As they grow , they will move to deeper waters ( until the DEEPEST and DARKEST
part of the ocean )
Endangered status : Near Extinction in Japan , endangered elsewhere
Unique points :
1 ) Horseshoe crabs are NOT REALLY CRABS ! They are under the Class of Merostomata of Arthropoda Phylum. ( not very sure but aren't Arthropods include Spiders , etc ? )
2 ) THEIR BLOOD IS BLUE !!! ( because of the absence of Haemogoblin ( don't know how to
spell this !! xD)
* Space scientists in NASA are actually using their blood to test life in other planets !
- Their blood is imMuneD to BACTERIAS ( so they don't have fever , etc )
- Their blood can fight infection !
CREATURE number 2 : GOBLIN SHARK
* know about this when I watched an episode about Goblin Sharks on Discovery Channel
Exist Since : Dinosaur period ( don't know exactly when so , sorry !!)
Lifespan : Unidentified
Life cycle : unknown
Habitat : DEEP BOTTOM in the ocean ( 250M -1300m)
Endangered status : they are RARE but Least Concerned elsewhere , but Threatened in Japan
Goblin sharks are not a threat to human since they feed on rock fish , Squids and other creatures in the ocean .
Creature Number 3 : VAMPIRE SQUID
* p.s. : something tells me that it somewhat reminds me of the Squid pictured in the book
" 20,000 leagues under the sea lols xD ) - ESPECIALLY the blue eyes xD
Exist Since : Relatively unknown but believed to exist during the DINOSAUR period also
Lifespan : unknown
- When encountering a predator or prey, the middle thing surrounded by the tentacles are adjusted accordingly with its posture, in some ways to produce a hypnotising effect.
- Live in depths of 600m-900m in the ocean
- They are small , but GIANT VAMPIRE SQUIDS do exist !
