(Review) B.A.P's 'Coffee Shop'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VzuX88Dc_g

B.A.P is one of my favourite Kpop boy group so far because they are so hardworking and their singles are always immaculately done. I really salute that the members wrote most of the songs in their albums and actually contributed something creatively compared to most Kpop groups. One of my favourite singles is definitely 'Coffee Shop'

                                                               (B.A.P having coffee together)

When I first heard 'Coffee Shop' on Youtube, I was instantly sold! It was sad that most people commented that they haven't grow to like this song yet and some said that this song isn't addictive. However, they gave me a pleasant surprise because I didn't know such a badass Hip-hop/Rap group can pull off a Jazz/R&B/Lounge Jazz/Pop song!!! It's amazing!

                                                                   (Bang Yongguk)

The whole song is very melancholy and laid back. Something which is very different from the usual B.A.P who always have powerful singles and dances!! Daehyun and Youngjae carried the vocals really good from the mood, tone and the emotions of the whole song. It is rare to see Daehyun not hitting high high notes and the rest of the members (especially Zelo) actually sung! I am really not used to it because Zelo is a rapper, but he sang quite well in this song after his rap. Of course, Yongguk is forever flawless with his deep voice rap which suits the whole feel of the song.

                                                                             (Zelo)

I especially love the piano accompaniment played by South Korean Jazz pianist, Song Young Joo which fills in the song and complimented the boys voice really well. It came off as being very natural and melancholy without deliberately jazzify it more with too many improvisations. It is simple, natural yet it hits home. Simple (yet actually it is not THAT simple) lines and some licks which makes the song really natural and laid back.

                                                                    (Youngjae)

I really love how the song started in the beginning, with the piano playing common jazz progression of II, V, I (I think) which is slowly joined by the drums. I really love how they sing the song, like they are whispering into our ears, telling us about the coffee shop that they used to visit with an ex as they walked around the cities reminiscing the memories with her and realizing that he is slowly forgetting her.

                                                                       (Daehyun)

I also love how the whole Music Video compliments the whole feel of the song. Using sepia effect and just seeing the members walking around in big cities slowly while the whole world is going fast tells us that they are still kinda stuck in time, thinking about the ex that they used to have.

                                                                        (Himchan)

I also love their pictures (group and individuals) where they succeeded in channeling the whole feel and mood of the whole song. They looked effortlessly chic and fashionable yet not outrageous as their usual outfits.

                                                                          (Jongup)

“Everything is changing, but why I am walking in the same place, waiting for you.”-Coffee Shop

Amazing song, Amazing harmony, Amazing lyrics, Amazing Music Video, Amazing Photo Shoot

Daebak! XD
